By the way, what settings are your smudging tool on? It seems to get a really nice effect, but mine just looks stupid.

which is better: Photoshop cs5 or Paint Tool Sai?

i only have photoshop 'cause i use my school's assigned tablet :iconforeveraloneplz:

It all comes down to personal preference, and considering Photoshop was made for editing photos originally, I prefer sai. Sai is just simple and easy, but if you plan on pursuing a professional career from digital painting, I'd suggest trying to learn how to paint in photoshop :)

i'd just like to get into digital drawing, 'cause i think it'll help me with using actual colors instead of just a nice, thin-leaded pencil and sketchbook, haha.

and you should do a hands and feet tutorial, 'cause i cant do them for crap unless i'm drawing from real life.
