One very effective way used by many artists to add subtle yet effective styles to your artwork as a finishing touch. Here is how to do it in Paint Tool Sai.

If the blending looks different from a different angle then you need to invest in a better monitor :)
I recommend something with IPS panel

I know I need too :( I just mentioned it because most people have an average monitor :) I am gonna invest in something with an IPS panel in the near future ;D

Man you click your tongue so much in this!

But the trick is very handy and I appreciate it, although I don't have Sai. I assume it would be a very similar process in Photoshop although I do not know if the clipping mask is the same.

@02:22I STRONGLY suggest that you write out your script beforehand, rather than speaking extempore.

I was interested enough to watch to see what your techniques were (in PaintShop Pro, these are called "adjustment layers" & work much the same way) but I turned off at 2:22 because of the disorganised commentary and the too frequent tongue-clicks. I offer the suggestion as one who has presented such topics to large live audiences (and failed from time-to-time!) and in the hope that you can profit from somebody else's experiences.

Sorry, but there it is.

@02:22Thanks for your critique. My fans like the way I do things. But I will try to be a bit more organised.

Hi, great tutorial... but unfortunately I'm running on a Mac.
Do you use photoshop in your work? If you do, could you please do a tutorial like this in that program?
If not, thanks anyway for this... I never knew about any gradient overlays, and I suppose what you do in photoshop would basically be the same

Sai can be run through mac if you use a windows emulator, like parallels. However, you can do the same kind of thing in photoshop. [link] :)
